Does your teen like to write? Are they funny? Gary Pearson’s From Page to the Stage, is a writing class that will break down how a premise for a comedy sketch works, how the jokes come from the characters and situations and how you can mine various strategies to write sketch comedy that tells compelling stories and has big laughs. In class group work will be part of the fun, where your ideas are supported and enhanced by your peers. There will also be homework, but don’t worry, your instructions will be clear and you’ll be able to confidently finish your material. You will explore ideas and sharpen what is funny about them in character monologues, relationship scenes and movie, commercial and song parodies. It is all done with the leadership of Gary Pearson, with many sketch stage shows on his resume including The Second City Mainstage in Toronto and The Chumps. Gary has writing credits on over 280 half hours of TV, including MadTV, Corner Gas, 22 Minutes and Sunnyside. The class culminates with you and your classmates reading your material at a live at an Oakville Improv show in front of an audience
